and Santa’s Workshop

Christmas Day Dinner
Members of the Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Hendricks County have prepared hot meals on Christmas Day and delivered them to Hendricks County residents for the past eighteen years, since 1997. This program not only serves those in our community who have been impacted by poverty but also those who are disabled and unable to prepare a meal or those who might be alone on Christmas.

In addition, we have provided toys to children who otherwise might not receive any at Christmas. Historically, UUCCHC selected, wrapped, and delivered the toys on Christmas Day. During the past two years, the parents have been invited to select toys for their children at our “Santa Workshop”. For those parents unable to schedule a time during the three days of the “Santa Workshop”, our congregation continues to select, wrap, and deliver gifts for the children.

Last year, 100 volunteers from the community joined UUCCHC in preparing and delivering 385 meals. In addition, a total of 143 children were provided with toys in 2015.

Despite the improving economy, for many in our community financial difficulties are still a reality. The impact of poverty is especially felt during the Holidays. Few other social agencies, including Meals on Wheels, provide meal assistance on Christmas Day.
